Cyprus Places to visit

Cyprus may be a small country, but being the third largest island in the Mediterranean means there is much to see and do. Such variety of entertainment and abundance of places to visit means that every taste is catered for.


Tombs of the Kings, Paphos
Spread over a vast area, these impressive underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC. They are carved out of solid rock with some being decorated with Doric pillars.

The Mosaics of Paphos, Paphos
(House of Dionysos, House of Thesseuss and House of Aion). The mosaic floors of these noblemen's villas dating from the 3rd to the 5th century AD, are considered among the finest in the Eastern Mediterranean. They mainly depict scenes from Greek mythology.

Kolossi Castle, Limassol
A fine example of military architecture, originally constructed in the 13th century and subsequently rebuilt in its present form in the middle of the 15th century. After the fall of Acre in 1291, it served as the Grand Commandery of the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem.

Kourion & Kourion Museum, Limassol
An ancient city-kingdom and one of the most spectacular archaelogical sites on the island, where excavations still bring new treasures to light. The magnificent Graeco-Roman Theatre was originally built in the 2nd century BC and is now fully restored and used for musical and theatrical performances. The house of Eustolios, originally a private Roman villa consists of a complex of baths and rooms with beautiful 5th century AD mosaic floors. The museum 4km away holds a collection of finds in a beautiful old house.

Wet'nWild Waterpark, Limassol
Set in 33 landscaped acres, visitors can enjoy raft rides, inner tube rides, body flumes, speed slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, an activity pool, a children's pool, the "wet bubble" and a 12,00 square foot wave pool.

Kition, Larnaca
An ancient city-kingdom with architectural remains dating back to the 13th century BC. The Church of St Lazaros is also here and is Larnaca's most impressive old building. It stands on the site of the original 9th century church, which itself was built over the tomb of Lazaros.

Typical Cypriot Villages, Ayia Napa & Protaras
This collection of villages including, Paralimni, Deryneia, Sotira, Frenaros and the picturesque fishing village of Potamos Liopetriou, are home to ancient churches and ruins and retain traditions such as basket making, reaching back countless generations.

Ocean Aquarium, Protaras
For those who love the sea and the creatures who live in it, the Ocean Aquarium at Protaras provides the perfect day out. It offers a memorable aquatic adventure that is both educational and entertaining. This amazing world has an equally amazing 1,000 species to enthral all visitors, young and old alike.

WaterWorld Waterpark, Ayia Napa
Said to be the biggest themed waterpark in Europe, WaterWorld offers, amongst other pleasures; the biggest wave pool in Europe, Chariot Chase - a four track slide, An activity pool that includes rolling logs and log slice walks, Roller coaster rides, Kamikaze slides, Children's fun area and Outdoor chess on what's claimed to be the world's largest board.

Nicosia, Capital of Cyprus
This old walled city is encircled by strong fortress walls built by the venetians in the 16th century and scattered with buildings and monuments of historical interest. Although renowned for its fabled past however, it also has a large selection of shops, cafes and tavernas as well as cinemas, theatres, restaurants, nightclubs and discos.

Troodos Mountains, Central Cyprus
An impressive mountain range stretching across the centre of Cyprus, the highest point reaches up to 1.953 metres on Mount Olympos. Admiring panoramic views and breathing the cool, pine-scented air makes a heady change from the coasts and plains a short distance away. With scenic walks, numerous Byzantine churches to see, 9 of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, charming mountain villages and special picnic sites, the Troodos range offers more than one might expect.
